About the album
This is award-winning composer Chris Roe’s soundtrack to Blue Jean, the critically acclaimed debut film from director Georgia Oakley. For this soundtrack, Chris has incorporated strings, synths, piano and saxophone to create a delicate, layered score that beautifully captures the emotion of the film.
Set in the 1980’s, Blue Jean stars Rosy McEwen as Jean, a PE teacher forced to lead a double life and hide her sexuality at a time when Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative Government are about to pass the Section 28 bill to prohibit the “promotion of homosexuality” by local authorities. When a new student threatens to expose her, Jean is pushed to extreme lengths to protect her job and integrity.
Blue Jean is set for release in UK cinemas on the 10th February 2023. It is written and directed by Georgia Oakley, produced by Hélène Sifre and stars Rosy McEwen, Kerrie Hayes, Lucy Halliday, Stacy Abalogun and Izzy Neish. The film has received multiple award wins and nominations including a BAFTA nomination for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director, or Producer and Georgia Oakley winning Best Debut Screenwriter at the BIFA Awards.
Composer quote:
“The score for Blue Jean fuses fragile chamber strings and piano with vintage synths to fit with the 80’s setting and give a gradual building tension through the film. There is also a distant soprano saxophone, representing a freedom within Jean’s character that can’t be fully expressed until the end of the film”’ – Chris Roe
