About the album

This is composer Adam Price’s soundtrack to the Paramount+ thriller ‘Curfew’. The six-part series produced by Vertigo Films is an adaption of Jayne Cowie’s novel After Dark, and stars Sarah Parish, Mandip Gill, Mitchell Robertson and Alexandra Burke.

”Curfew’ centres on an alternative reality, where all men live under ‘The Women’s Safety Act’, bound by a strict curfew from 7PM to 7AM every night with their movements tracked by an ankle tag 24 hours a day. The series kicks off with the discovery of a woman’s body brutally murdered during curfew hours, and left on the steps of the Women’s Safety Centre. Veteran Police Officer Pamela Green (Sarah Parish) believes that a man is responsible and leads the charge in the hunt for the killer. However, in a world where men are bound by the curfew system, Pamela’s theory is rejected: that the introduction of The Women’s Safety Act almost three years ago is widely considered effective at protecting women – who have been able to go out at night without looking over their shoulders – and nobody wants to hear different.

Determined to prove a man committed this murder, Pamela’s investigation threatens to bring The Women’s Safety Act crashing down… people in high places are determined to make the curfew a success and will do all it takes to prevent Pamela from discovering the truth.’

“From the initial discussions with the team, we focused on ensuring the music had a lightness to it. The first image Joasia, the director showed me was this bright vivid neon pink letter ‘C’. That got the ball rolling for me. That bright, punchiness combined with this very real, dystopian world inspired a bubbly yet weighty musical palette. Much of the score follows the journey of our main detective, Pamela, but there was a very deliberate decision to have an underlying ambiguity in the music throughout. We are constantly asking ourselves questions about the Curfew concept as a whole and we tried to reflect this musically in the Curfew theme, especially through harmonic choices. Working with dystopian narratives is always a fun challenge. The music combines thick gritty analogue synths, spiky harpischords, relentless four-to-the-floor pulses and intimate pianos to find this particular Curfew flavour.” – Adam Price
